Through the collaboration between the Szeged Water Sports Association and the University of Szeged Faculty of Engineering, kayak, canoe, and rowing students can receive financial support during their studies, and the faculty’s students and staff can access the club's services at discounted rates.
The leadership of the SZTE Faculty of Engineering prioritizes providing a high-quality, practice-oriented education that leads to a marketable degree, while also ensuring that students experience university life in a student-friendly environment. One element of this, which also supports physical and mental well-being, is sports. Thanks to the proximity of the Tisza River, Szeged, the City of Sunshine, offers excellent opportunities for water sports. The cooperation agreement signed with the Szeged Water Sports Association (SZVE) on October 9, 2024, strengthens the faculty’s efforts to improve leisure sports opportunities for its students and staff.

“In our fast-paced world, we need to place increasing emphasis on leading a quality life. One of our goals with this agreement is to prioritize healthy living and the sports activities that contribute to it for both our colleagues and students, while also bringing them closer to role models. The Szeged Water Sports Association boasts numerous Olympic, World, and European champions and medalists, whom we can meet and even train with. In essence, we are partnering with champions. Moreover, we must not forget the parallels between professional athletes and the engineering profession: both successful athletes and great engineers are characterized by precision, respect, humility, and often teamwork,” said Professor Dr. József Sárosi, Dean of the SZTE Faculty of Engineering, about the collaboration.
The Szeged Water Sports Association provides services in both competitive and recreational sports in the disciplines of kayaking, canoeing, and rowing. The association signed the agreement with SZTE’s Faculty of Engineering to foster a positive image of elite athletes, support its goals related to youth development, and facilitate the involvement of its athletes in higher education.
As part of the cooperation, the Faculty of Engineering plans to organize student, faculty, partner company, and family events at the Szeged water sports facility. In addition, the faculty’s students and staff will be able to use SZVE’s services at a discounted rate.
